WELCOME!

Anyone who desires to progress in body, mind, or spirit may attend the Zen center. We welcome everyone to begin their exploration of "discovering ones' true self nature" by attending the Sunday morning weekly Sanzenkai meditation service, followed by the vegetarian potluck meal.

NEWCOMERS & VISITORS

We strive for "Beginner's Mind". No matter how long or short your practice of Zen, we treat each period of seated (called zazen) and walking (called kinhin) meditation as if it were our "first taste". We focus our attention on the disposition of body, breath, and mind. At the end of the meditation, participants are given an opportunity to introduce themselves, talk about their interest in Zen and ask any questions they may have. Attendees often find new meaning in hearing the instructions offered.

  • Please arrive to the Zendo quietly.
  • No unnecessary talking please.
  • Arrive 10 to 15 minutes ahead of time.
  • Wear loose clean clothing. Little or no perfume is best.
  • Bring your own meditation cushions (zafu), if you have one.

MEMBERSHIP
You may formalize and celebrate your Zen practice at any time by requesting an Initiation (tokudo) Ceremony. This ceremony marks your involvement as a lay practitioner of Soto Zen Buddhism. "Discipleship" and "Priesthood" are offered at the discretion of our Spiritual Director Reverend Thompson.

We invite and encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to practice Zen meditation. Zen does not conflict in any way with any religious creed.
